Taekwondo, a Korea traditional martial arts, has established itself as a global sport.
Taekwondo has a worldwide population of about 60million practitioners and its world governing body, the World Taekwondo Federation, has a global membership of 179 national associations. Taekwondo's educational and humanitarian values are well recognized and accepted around the world.
Taekwondo is Korea's gift to the world. I believe that the Kukkiwon has faithfully carried out its duties as the world head quarters for Taekwondo training and education.
I also believe that the publication of a newly revised and expanded edition of Kukkiwon Taekwondo Textbook after 18 years is part of the Kukkiwon's continued efforts for the development of Taekwondo.
The new edition, both in Korean and English, contains Taekwondo's basic movements and poomsae in a standardized and unified manner, and will serve as a guidebook for Taekwondo practitioners.
The textbook will greatly contribute to the scientific development of Taekwondo, as if explains the principles of Taekwondo's techniques and poomsae scientifically.
